Here's last years experience, The scales are already adjusted for the extra weight of the clothes and shoes you would wear on the trail. That takes care of the clothes pushing you over the limits imposed by Philmont. I think they have the scales set about 4-5 lbs light to compensate for the clothing. Also they were much more concerned by blood pressure than being slightly over the edge on weight. Don't get the idea that you can be 20 lbs over and get by but we had a couple of leaders myself included that were on the edge and we were fine by their standards. Being in shape is much more important. They are focusing on the underweight much more than in past years but we did not have any problems there either.

Good luck and have fun.

  Subject: [Philmont]: Height & Weight

I have been monitoring the emails very closely and I have gained I lot of very useful info. So my questions, oh wise ones, are these:

   1) How close to max weights can an adult be? 220 on scale--214 by chart

  2) Shoes on or off at weigh in?

  3) How about a youth 5lbs under the min.

Many thanks and keep all info flowing.
