Re: [Philmont]: Trek dates question

Apparently it is possible to have 2 (or more?) crews starting the same
trek on the same day. How does Philmont (or the affected advisors)
ensure that there is adequate "space" between the crews during the
trek?

It is my understanding that Philmont tries to put roughly the same
number of Crews/number of people out every day. That is about 35
Crews.

With the exceptions of the very beginning and very end of the season,
there is a fairly consistent number of Crews/number of people on the
Ranch at all times. At the very beginning, for the first 11 days they

are pumping Crews into the backcountry but getting none out, so there
is
a growing population. They may compensate somewhat by accepting more
Crews early, but if so I have never heard of it (maybe Calvin could
answer that). At the end of the summer, the last 11 day decline in
Crews is somewhat compensated by the "short treks" - somewhat because I

don't believe they usually fill all their short trek opportunities, and

they also don't have short treks shorter than I think seven (?) days.
So that last week sees a rapid decline in Crews.

As an 8/4 Crew, you may have a slight decline in the number of Crews on

the Ranch on the end versus the beginning of your trek. I doubt if you

will notice the difference.
