Philmont has advised in the past, that a "fragrance free " label does NOT
mean that that particular item would no longer be considered a smellable.
Bears have a remarkable sense of smell. Consider, as reported to us by
rangers in 2000, that a bear can smell the peas inside a sealed can of
peas. Moreover, it was reported in a local newspaper article by USGS
biologists, that a bear's sense of smell is so good, that they can detect
food from 18 miles away !
My advice, if you use any lotion, regardless if it has a frangrance or
not, do NOT use it after 3 pm.
