Philmont is a spooky place. I have heard lots of stories from multiple
folks (mostly long-ago Rangers) about "odd" things they encountered
there. I did not get the impression they were trying to snow me, and in
some cases the tellers were (still) genuinely mystified 10, 20, 30 years
later.

That said, I will also note (as I am coming up on around 2 man-years of
camping in my life) that I have seen lots of strange things in the out
of doors, none of which were inexplainable if you had adequate time to
look at them and think about what you were "seeing". Mother Nature can
be truly bizarre. But as either Isaac Asimov or Arthur Clarke once
said, it ain't a UFO until you can read the Martian registration plate.

But whether staged or not, I'd love to see a headless horseman at
Clark's Fork!
