Hi, Steve.
My son went to Packard about 2 years ago. They did climbing/rappelling,
rated about 5-10 on the climb. Swimming in the upper Arkansas river
(cold snow run off) and free flowing hot springs. Rafting upper
Arkansas. One overnight on river. Gear shipped in by truck. Hiking
was good. Staff was "awsome" according to him. The trek leader had no
complaints and had been there a couple of times.
I have no experience with any of the others you listed, but...
He's also been to the Ranger Camp at Dahlonega, Georgia (NE Georgia
Council) a couple of times. It's basically a climbing / rappelling camp
with some backpacking, lots of climbing knots. The camp is taught by
the Army Ranger Instructors from the 5th Army Ranger Training Battalion
at Camp Merriell. Participants use the Army Ranger Mountaineering
Facilities. He still, after about 3 years and a trip to Packard and a
trip to Philmont, talks about Sgt. Holly, one of the instructors being
an incredibly cool guy. All who attend need to be in good physical
shape as with any high adventure activity.
