my troop went to NT in Canada last summer -- the Bissett, Manitoba base.
We went a couple days early to explore Winnipeg. Stayed at a youth Hostel,
went to the Royal Canadian mint, Manitoba Museum (full scale replica of the
1st ship to enter Hudson Bay in the 1600's), and even got to go to a
baseball game--- the Winnipeg GOLDEyes (it's a fish). Got lots of extra
fishing stuff at the Walmart, licenses too. Boys found a go-kart plact to
visit too. WONDERFUL time in Bissett, a very small base, lots of personal
attention. Saw NO ONE else but other scouts and a few fisherman on our
canoe trek.............the best part, the FLOAT Plane ride.
Going home, we stayed at a hotel near the airport with a pool and giant
slide. ordered pizza, and watched movies.
More expensive than Ely, but well worth the isolation and Canadian
experience. The boys got really fast at converting money in their
head.............
