Pete Swiggum asks?
snip ~ Trek #4 - Hiking from Clear Creek to Cyphers mine - does it go over
Phillips?
Yes it does go over Phillips, good hard steady climb, but well worth the view at the top, we camped at Phillips in '03 on Trek #5.
snip ~ Mt. Phillips to Cimaroncito: Looks like a pretty lengthy day on the trail.
Anyone have information to share about this?
In '03 we did this stretch of trail on Trek #5, its about 14 miles, we stopped at Cypher's mine and Hunting Lodge and did program at both. It made for a long day, but we had a layover at Cimarroncito so it wasn't to bad, however a lot of down and my toes were screaming by the time we got into camp. But I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
Both of my treks have spent their last night at Tooth Ridge Camp, which is roughly 2 hrs from Base Camp, add another 2+ hours to traverse Tooth Ridge Trail, and at least 1 to 1 1/2 hrs to climb the Tooth of Time and enjoy the scenery and take pictures, plus however long it will take you to climb up Shaefer's Pass from either Ponderosa Park or North Fork Urraca, you can see it makes for a long last day. But I would rather come in over the Tooth of Time and finish up that way then ride back into Base Camp on a bus. In fact it is the only requirement of our troop when picking a Philmont trek, the trek must finish by coming in over the Tooth of Time.
Going back in 123 days, but who's counting!!!!!!
