wrt Trek #4 - Clear Creek to Cyphers.

We did Trek 4 in '04. Our council HA chairman is pretty well regarded in
terms of how well he knows the ranch. His assessment of the Clear Creek to
Cyphers stretch is that it is, in his words, the toughest on the ranch.
That said, I'm not sure which direction he has in mind. In our experience
it was a long, steady climb up and over Phillips and a much longer decent
through Phillips Camp, Commanche Peak and Thunder Ridge on the way to
Cyphers ... it was a long walk ... and we witnessed a pretty wicked face
plant by a crew that just had to get past us. We could hear Cyphers easily
an hour before we arrived due to the switchbacks coming off Phillips. Check
out the contour lines on the map, they tell the story.

wrt North Fork ... We walked the north fork from Cyphers down to the hunting
lodge on our way to Websters. May be the prettiest walk i've taken on the
ranch although our detour through hidden valley on the way from Websters to
Tooth Ridge was well worth it.

Happy Trails, YIS

Subject: [Philmont]: Trail / Distance questions

To Philmont veterans.....

I'm looking for information on the following hikes:

Ponderosa Park, North Fork Urraca and other last night camps where you hike
over the Tooth back to base camp. How long a day are these and what can you
share about the trail on this (apparently) long day on the trail?

Trek #4 - Hiking from Clear Creek to Cyphers mine - does it go over
Phillips?

Mt. Phillips to Cimaroncito: Looks like a pretty lengthy day on the trail.
Anyone have information to share about this?

Thanks a lot....
