We went from Cyphers to Clear Creek and you go over Mt. Phillips after Comanche Peak and Thunder Ridge. The climb up Phillips is easier from Cyphers as the trail has several switch backs and the other side is steep with loose rock.
We were on Trek 4 and went from Clear Creek over Phillips to Cyphers. The climb was steep, but we paced our selves and stopped for breakfast, etc. I don't remember gravel being particularly a problem. On the way down with the switchbacks, I remember discussing that we were glad we didn;t have to go UP all that gradual back and forth.
