RE: [Philmont]: Trail / Distance questions

We did the ridge from Ponderosa Park in August, 2004. We started out about
7:00 AM with 4 liters of water. Took our time stopping a lot at looks outs
on the way up, side hiked Shafer peak and stopped some more at look outs.
We also stopped for over an hour at the Tooth for lunch and the climb. We
made it in about 3:30 PM chased by a hail storm. We had plenty of water but
had the unique experience of hiking the ridge all the way to the tooth in
the fog because of the previous days hail storm. So water consumption was
probably down quite a bit because of less sun, but 4-5 liters would seem to
be plenty. I might get out a little earlier next time, but I'd still take
my time with all of the spectacular views.

Ponderosa Park I would rate somewhere in the middle. No water (packed it up
from Clarks Fork) and they were on a side hill in the pines. It lacked
really good views which would have made up for the water. We had a hard time
watching the meteor shower because there were no really good openings but
could see the lightning on the horizon heading out over the plains. It
didn't seem like the bear cable was big enough for the number of sites. All
in all, I'd stay there again because it wasn't to far from Clarks Fork for
the activities and cut off some of the climbing for the following morning.

To Philmont veterans.....

I'm looking for information on the following hikes:

Ponderosa Park, North Fork Urraca and other last night camps where you hike
over the Tooth back to base camp. How long a day are these and what can you
share about the trail on this (apparently) long day on the trail?

Trek #4 - Hiking from Clear Creek to Cyphers mine - does it go over
Phillips?

Mt. Phillips to Cimaroncito: Looks like a pretty lengthy day on the trail.
Anyone have information to share about this?
