Pete,
They're not exaggerated. My son and I both seem to recall 68 crossings
between Black Mountain and North Fork Urraca. You go through Black Mountain
on the way from Beaubien to North Fork Urraca. Towards the end, I just gave
up and trudged through, rather than tightrope across the log. The water was
only ankle deep, and I'd waterproofed my boots to death before going out
there, so my feet stayed dry.

Subject: [Philmont]: Stream crossings
To the Philmont vets once again.... (there will be more) :-)
A couple of you mentioned a trek that involved several stream crossings.
Two mentioned crossing the stream(s) 50 to 75 times. Assuming those numbers
are slightly exaggerated, there are still probably quite a few crossings to
deal with on that trek.
Besides the obvious method of trudging straight through, what precautions or
techniques did you have to use in order to cross these streams? Were they
ankle deep? Knee deep? Waist deep?
Thanks in advance....
