No day hikes or the ranch would be swamped with all sorts of folks out on their own. Lots of insurance liability implications too!

Subject: [Philmont]: Day Hikes At Philmont

I probably should know the answer to this question, but if you were to just
SHOW UP at Philmont, will they let you do a day hike on the ranch? For
example, if you were in the area and just wanted to hike to the Tooth and
back, would they let you? If so, do you check into base camp so they know
you are on the ranch? Along these same lines, what about backpacking on
the ranch (not during summer season) WITHOUT a ranger and you providing
your own food? Taboo, or a possibility? Thanks. YIS. Mike ('76, '02 &
'04).
