In 2002 we had Fire Modified Trek that doesn't exist in the '02 Itinerary
Guide. Base Camp, Lovers Leap Camp, Aguila, Lower Bonita, Beaubien, Crooked
Creek, Comanche Peak Camp, Cimarroncito, Cimarroncito, Deer Lake Mesa,
Harlan, and Base Camp. Our 1st year Ranger had directed us to #4 at Aquila.
A good view to the ESE from 8300'overlooking Zastrow Turnaround at 7000'.

Does anyone have any secret campsites they would like to divulge? I've got
two crews going this summer and would like to have a few hints for good
campsites views.

Other views we encountered along the way in 2002:

Lovers Leap Camp to Stone Wall pass. Great view of TOT all the way to the
Stone Wall.

Rayado Creek Trail from Porcupine to Clear Creek was just a great hike with
the stream and wildflowers all along the way

Top of Mount Phillips (for lunch) A few puffy clouds above added to the
scenes. Views in every direction.

Commanche Peak - No views in the camp itself, but it was just a short walk
to the north, and the Rock Recliners for spectacular sunset/sunrise viewing.

Middle Fork trail from Cyphers Mine to Hunting Lodge. Who said that there
are no rain forests at Philmont. Crystal clear skies on the greenest trail
we saw at the Ranch.

Cimarroncito - Last Campsite on the north end. Was directly across from a
ring of Totem Poles. We found 3 Totems with references to our Council.
Whatever happened to the Totem carving activity at Philmont? I think they
should have crews carve new Totem Poles once every 3-4 years to keep up a
neat tradition.

Deer Lake Mesa (Not Deer Lake Mesa Camp) - Nice flat campsites around the
Lake. Woke up in a cloud deck. As we walked down to the lake the cloud it
was about 30 feet above the Lake. Hiked out through the cloud toward Harlan
Camp. A truly surreal morning.

Harlan Camp - Asked the staff if they had any campsites with good views.
Staffer took us way back up the trail to south end of camp where we first
entered the camp. Spectacular Sunrise view over Cimarron and Lakes. It
pays to ask the staff if they have good views!
