In 1999, an advisor from one of our four crews went somewhat "ballistic"
with the staff at one camp. Granted, it had been a tough and wet day, but
there was no need for him to do that. In any case, the whole crew
suffered as, from then on, they were assigned to the most remote campsite
at each remaining staff camp.
Of course, what happened was that the CD at the camp where the advisor
acted like an ass simply got on the radio and told their next camp to
"take care" of the crew in a special manner. And that continued to take
place throughout their trek. There is probably even a radio code used by
Philmont staffers to issue warnings about obnoxious advisors.
The lesson our crew learned is to be nice to the staff or you may wind up
spending a lot of extra hiking time to enjoy some of the Philmont benefits
such as advisor's coffee, purified water, extra AP paper if you run out, a
nearby latrine, etc.
