Those subscription notices came from another company other than Backpacker.
It happened to me also. Companies somehow get subscription lists and then
send you a notice. Typically, the rates quoted are above those from the
magazine. I called Backpacker because I thought I still had a ways to go on my
subscription. They confirmed that I did and that they had NOT sent out the notice.
