Regarless of what Philmont requires in any given year, highlighting the trek
on the overall map can be a graphic illustration of how big Philmont is
compared to what your crew will cover.

Last year logistics required the overall map for planning. We took in the
sectional maps and they made us go get an overall map. We had to wait over
an hour to get into logistics after we brought the overall map.

I would suggest purchasing the better sectional maps from the Tooth of Time
Traders for logistics and for use in the backcountry. The overall map,
while nice to look at, is a poor substitute for the sectionals for actual
use in the field. I can say this with some gusto, since when attending
Philmont as a Scout, the only map available at the time was the overall map.
