The reason why Logistics wants to use the overall map when they do the trek planning is because they are just giving you the basic details of your trek; where you pick up food, where staff camps are, where water sources are, where you will do your service project. It is much easier to get a picture of your entire trek looking at one map, than trying to put the info on two or three sectional maps.
The sectional maps are a must on the trail, becaue their level of detail is much better that the single overall map. Your crew leader, under your Ranger's guidance, will take the info received during his or her session in Logistics and put it on your respective sectional maps.
It really isn't a problem.

It seems very odd to me that Philmont would require the overall map at base
camp when the crew's trek has been assigned and the route is all on one
sectional map. Maybe someone can elaborate as to why this is.
