Not under "normal" wear. The maps have a coating to make them
weather-resistant, and the Sharpie ink rides on top of the coating. It dries
smudge-proof in a minute or so. In our case, we wore through the coating to
the paper layer beneath, erasing both the sharpie marks and the map contours
and trails.
