Steve asks...

Has anyone been to Greenwood Canyon Camp? Where is it reference to Copper
Park?

Answer...

While I have not been to Greenwood Canyon Camp, like other Valle trail
camps, it is not a fixed place (no fire rings, sumps, or bear cables) but an
area. Unfortunately, on the overall map the word "Greenwood" looks
suspiciously like "Cottonwood" and the trail from there to Copper Park goes
completely off the overall map (by the way, the real Cottonwood Canyon is in
the northeast portion of the map, just east of the Philmont boundary).
While a portion of that area is on the North map, in the past crews doing
that route needed the actual USGS map to navigate to Copper Park. With the
big increase in traffic that trail will see this year, I would expect that
the new quad maps of the ranch will eliminate that issue.
