I have to agree with Coop on this one. We've used our own tents and stoves on three trips
now for the very same reason. Experiences and lessons learned with your own equipment
on the training hikes is priceless. Which tents leak and more importantly where, stove
maintenance issues, etc. In 1997, we checked out Phil rainflys and cook gear. The time
wasted at check-in and check-out if you have a crew or two ahead of you is aweful. In
2000 and 2004 our crews carried all our own gear including Kelty Parafoils. Worked
out much better for us.
