Polar pure, or the Philmont purification method du jour, will be provided to your crew in the quantities you need. If you wish to bring other methods, that is your right, but the ranger will only cover the Philmont method. The taste isn't as bad as it sounds, and if it is iodine, once the bugs are dead (4 hours), you can use vitamin C to cause it to sink, or just use gatorade in the water to cover it up.
Crews should be in pairs in order to lessen the damage to the area and to lighten the load for the crew members. Adults should never tent with their children. This is the same general rule followed anywhere else. Besides, what 14-18 year old boy wants to tent with his dad? Female advisors cannot tent with their sons. Advisors have the choice of hauling their own tent, or tenting with another advisor, no rule there. I tent alone, but then again, my tent weights less than 4 pounds.
One pot cooking works most of the time, but not always. The idea is to cook all the packets in the same pot at the same time (not dessert, of course (and mashed potatoes work some of the time but not always)). Just use your best judgement. The ranger, again, will tell you how, but for now, during your practice hikes, use the "REI foods" and follow the instructions. Basically, boil, then add water to food (you can have too much water, so best to add water to food and not the other way around). Think about using Turkey Roasting Bags (try both ways - with and without - then pick the one you like best).

These have probably been addressed before but:
polor pure-can you use the tablets that get rid of the taste? Should you bring the 2 tablet iodine system?
Do crews always pair up 2 men to a tent? DO some adults pair up with their sons? Do adults usually tent by themselves? What is recommended?
Explain Philmont's idea of One Pot cooking method where the freezed dried food is involved? Do you boil the water and mix individually or mixed it all in one pot?
