Keep in mind that Philmont is in one of the more "remote" areas of the
country. Internet access (especially broadband access) is a relatively
"new" concept out there- by "new," I mean within the last several years.
Heck, Cimarron didn't even have an ATM machine until the late 90s and it was
2000 before the gas stations installed "pay-at-the-pump" - a feature that
had been at stations in other parts of the country for several years by that
point. Internet access for staff during the years I worked out there
(1997-2000) was by a single computer in the admin office with a dial-up
modem. Anyway, they have been running a few years behind more developed
areas of the country in terms of technology, but they are closing that gap.
They've made a lot of progress recently...the online lottery, email
confirmation of trek selections, etc. I'm sure as time goes on, they'll be
doing more and more stuff online. I personally don't think mailings will be
completely eliminated, but who knows... Like everyone else on here, I'm not
holding my breath...
