Re: [Philmont]: Itinerary change requests

I have another story from this--I was at Cypher's Mine in 2002 when this
fire evac happened. A crew left us that morning, heading to Shaeffer's
Pass. Well, come the evac, that crew is missing. They had made an
unscheduled itinerary change. After multiple staffers were sent out in the
dark, they located this crew at Tooth Ridge. Just an example of how
unscheduled it. changes put others in danger.
On another note, logistics tend to be pretty strict with itinerary changes.
I've spent some time trying to convince logistics that the change is
warranted. One of these "discussions" was with my now-husband! :) Moral
is: Trust the backcountry staff--they know what is reasonable. If they are
willing to help, they will. If not, move on.
