That would really cause problems. A fed bear is a dead bear. If you start feeding them - regardless of what it is and how you do it, they begin depending on man. They will know how that food got there, they have very good sense of smell and will smell man on it. Then when it is gone, they will start looking for campers to provide what ever it is that they have become accustomed to. Although it sounds a little cruel to let some starve, it is far better than turning many dozens into problem bears that may well attack and injure or kill Scouts and then have to be killed themselves.

If the bears are desperate for food because of unusually dry conditions I
wonder if thought has been given to providing them with something to tide
them over until conditions are better.
