The rating of the bag is important but, in my experience, using a bag with a
good foam pad to keep you off the cold of the ground is at least as
significant a factor.
I recall as a boy camping without a foam pad and getting cold in the night
from the cold of the ground, so much so that I rolled in my bag to get more
of it underneath of me to keep warm.
A foam groundpad weighs very little and the comfort it brings by keeping the
cold of the ground away from you is very noticeable. Must be all the
bubbles in the foam with the air insulation contained therein that makes it
such a good insulator.
Be sure also that there are no air leaks in your tent walls. A little cold
breeze working through a leak can be a cold annoyance.
