I followed the sage advice of this forum and bought a
bunch of Philmont food. It makes a great "show and tell"
and also allows me to see what its all about. Contact
Philmont for details.
The suppers have dehydrated in them. Each pouch requires 2
cups of boiling water (to feed two). The directions for
cooking them are on the pouch. The list has debated about
three ways to do this: in a pot (philmont taught method),
in turkey bags and in the shipping bags. Look in the
archive for pros/cons.
I weighed them. All are a meal for two. They are from
2005. L is lunch, B breakfast, S supper (duh?!). You can
do the math to compute an average day for two people. I
told my crew they'd each carry two breakfasts, lunchs and
suppers and share with a partner for four days of food.
(sometimes you go less time between stops, sometimes
more):
Meal LBS OZ
B9 1 0
L1 1 13
L5 1 9
L7 1 5
L9 1 6
S9 13
S7 14
S5 1 0
The lunches are heaviest because the suppers rely on
freeze dried. Sorry I don't have more variety but I bought
what I wanted to know more about.
