I totally recomend getting some of the Philmont meals for one of your last
training treks. It will SHOCK your boys how many bags of food there are for
12 people for 3 meals (1 day) = 18, 2 person bags. It is a huge pile of
food. You can also practice getting rid of some of the packaging (and
weight) not needed
to pack the food safely.

I was just on Tooth of Time traders last night, (checking for small gifts
for my son's Eagle Court of Honor, but that is another story). There is a
link all the way at the bottom on left. The menu of the food left from 2005
is there. A few of the lunches are sold out.

I have hiked PHilmont twice,
In 2003 - turkey bag method
In 1999 - NON turkey bag method.

GO with the turkey bag. We let the cooks eat out of the bags after everyone
else had been served. HUGE incentive to be a cook, nothing but a cup and
spoon to wash.

What ever you decide as your crew method, don't let a ranger convince you to
change. Use the method your crew has practiced.

Has anyone tried the new Crock pot size bags??? I wonder if that size is
the right size?????
