Autumn Adventure 2005 was my first contact with the MP 1 tablets now in use at Philmont. Our guides advised us to leave the filters and pumps behind, although they also said it was our choice (we had an all-adult crew).
We had one crew member who insisted on pumping water through the filter even if it was to be boiled thereafter. That lasted until about the second day of our trek, when we switched to the tablets exclusively.
