RE: [Philmont]: Burros

As I see it, the burro program has great value. Working with an animal and
learning that these are thinking creatures who respond to kindness is an
excellent experience to have. The burro program is a great part of the
Philmont camping experience and a significant part of the Philmont heritage.

It makes perfect sense if a crew has already had extensive experience
working with animals - horses, for example - that they select a trek without
the
burro program. It does not make sense to skip the burro program if they
have not.

YMMV.
