Several years ago, the First Need pump was the only FDA approved
"purifier". I have been using mine since 2000, and love it. Just
pump the water and drink it, no worries. Ice water at Cyphers and Fish
Camp tasted great, while others waited for their tablets to work. While
elk hunting in Colorado, I only pumped as much water as I needed. I bought
mine at REI, and paid WAY TOO much for it. Rusell Ballard from this list
found that there were several places to purchase them online, for a much more
reasonable cost. http://www.waltonfeed.com had the best
price last year. I purchased two replacement cartridges for my
unit from them. I have no affilitation with them, I just found them
to have reasonable prices. I swap my purifier cartridge about once a
year.

BEFORE you get to Philmont. Don't try something new during your
trek.
