Philmont has in the past sold Pith Helmets, I bought one on Ebay which
included a picture of the crew with several crew members wearing them. FYI

I dont think that pith helmets are associated in any way with the modern
day US Military. Perhaps back in Baden Powell's time with the British
Military.
At this time the people that I see wearing them are mail carriers with the
US Postal Service in the Summer time, and some Park Rangers.
It is difficult anymore to determine what if anything is the official BSA
headgear. If you look in the BSA catalog you will find at least a half
dozen or more type caps and hats, if you visit a BSA store you will find a
lot more types of caps in addition to a lot of different caps for summer
camps or special events.
If you visit the Tooth of Time Traders at Philmont, you will find a dozen
or more different type of caps and hats. A lot of Troops will also have
their own type of caps.
