Yeah, the bad part was that we had a comissary available on day 3, but we were told to carry the 6 days anyway. We had 2 more pickups after that, one of them involved about a 5 to 6 mile side hike to Ute Springs.

We had itinerary 4 in 2005 and had two 4 day food pickups as our biggest pickups, and the commissaries were directly on our path, no side hikes needed. If they have gone to a six day pickup for 2006, that would be a pretty big change to itinerary 4. We had a hard enough time finding room for 4 days of food, I can't imagine having to carry 6 days worth.

You pick up all of the meals that will last until your next comissary pickup. Sometimes they have you are scheduled to miss a comissary. This year, on Trek 4, we had to start out with 6 days of food, even though we were within striking distance of a comissary on about day 3.
