We use First Need as well and the work well with moderate effort. One
of our ASM's modified the setup years ago by adding a SweetWater
SiltStopper to the intake tube. It does dirty up quickly, even in
relatively clean water sources. One hand it can be disheartening to see
it color up so quickly, even in relatively clean water sources. But
then... That's what you want it to do. I'd consider bringing a couple
of coffee filters to wrap around the Sweetwater to catch the real big
particulates. It may slow the pumping down a bit but they're cheaper
that the Sweetwater replacement cartridges, which run around $10 each.
P.S. Bring several spares.
