You want to get your con project over as early in the trek as logistics will let you. They may tell you, you have to wait till your Ranger is gone first (us last year)? Also schedule a back up project incase your first one does not work out for you.

Jerry,
Our crew did Trek 4 in 2005 and we did our conservation project while at Beaubien. We hiked about an hour up Bonita Peak and cleared trees and brush for a new trail. As I recall, this arrangement was made while at Logistics back at base camp.
If there's anything else I can help you with in regards to Trek 4, I'd be happy to do it.

Subject: [Philmont]: Cons Projects
Is there anyone out there who did #4 in 2005? Where were your conservation project opportunities located?
I realize it may not be the same in 2006; but it might be after all. Philmont used to publish the cons sites in the itineraries & it definitely helped in making iten choices. They quit doing it early in this century, I understand due to their wanting to keep their flexibility with where they put sites after the PEAKS books were published. I can call in May; but I thought I'd see if anyone knows from last year.
