Has anyone done this trek? I have hiked down the switchbacks discussed
below. I wonder if you could carry enough water from Sawmill to avoid the detour
downhill to Cypher's, and then back up Thunder Ridge?

Pay attention to the one day where you go from Sawmill
to Commanche Peak. You climb up from Sawmill to
Thunder Ridge (about 1000' of elevation gain), then
drop back down to Cypher's Mine to get water (giving
back most of that 1000'). Then it is back up to
Thunder Ridge before going up another 1000' to
Commanche Peak, which is a dry camp. I figured it to
be about a 12 mile day - could be one of the reasons
they classified it as Strenuous.
