We covered our packs with our pack covers, but that was over kill and
not needed. In fact, Amtrak loaded us on the train first and we carried
our packs to the baggage section, which was one half of the lower
section of the car we were assigned. And the conductor let us access
them during the ride and prior to our arrival at Raton so the boys could
repack a few items they retrieved. But I would count on such access as
it is likely an individual conductor's prerogative and this may have
been an exception. But it did allow us to line everything up so that the
unloading, which we did as well, went quickly so the train could leave
the station sooner.
