It's about an hour and forty minutes from Albuquerque, and there are only a limited number of activities available, but the Very Large Array west of Socorro is more than worth a visit if you like big science. http://www.vla.nrao.edu/. Do you remember the radio telescopes from the movie "Contact"? That's the VLA. I visited as part of a college tour at New Mexico Tech -- which helps operate the VLA for the NSF -- so our trip to the VLA was sort of on the way to the airport. They offer two-hour extended tours for school groups. I didn't ask, but I'd be a nickel that they would do the same for a Scout group.
