As promised I passed this to my contact at the ranch, the preliminary
response is that they "are looking into the millage discrepancy and that is
could be a side hike they missed or a typo on the itinerary sheet. The
elevation graft" (on the map .. that sez ~70) "should be very accurate". I
expect they will get back to me in the next couple of days regarding this
... meantime:
I cannot explain your experience vs the Ranch's opinion ... the ranch
believes that their mileage estimates are accurate and intend that they
include all side hikes on the official itinerary, the new elevation profiles
allowed them to include ups/downs in the distance calculation as well ...
that said 110 is significantly different than 70 or even 80. Obviously the
ranch will choose a specific routing, probably the shortest possible ... did
you make other choices or adds? Anyway I expect to hear from them in the
next couple of days.
Finally, my quick and very coarse analysis puts this trek at about 80 miles
... without compensation for ups and downs ... not that this really helps
the debate.

According to my GPS mileage with all side hikes etc I had a total
of 110 miles for trek 21. I was using it anytime we went anywhere out side
of the campsite.
