All this bus talk has got me to thinking. I would like to recommend to my crew that we do something on day 12 other than hanging around Cimarron (we have all morning and early afternoon prior to heading to our eastbound Amtrak at 3 PM.) My crew hiked the Tooth of Time out of base camp that day in 2003.... what we thought was going to be about a 7 or 8 mile hike (from our lead advisors past 9 trips experience....PREDATING the switchback trail) that is actually about a 12 mile hike according to the routes on Phil-search. We got to start a tour of the KC Museum on day 11 when we hiked out to Rayado from Backache Springs but we only got about half the tour in before the bus arrived and we needed to skedaddle. I'd like to go to the museum right after breakfast on day 12 and spend a couple hours there before coming back to base camp. I will also recommend that we visit the Villa Philmonte and what we do depends a little on what time we get in after coming in over the Tooth from
North Fork Uracca.
Ok, enough of my long winded rambling, my question, is there any provision either by Philmont or otherwise for crews that want to go to Kit Carson for a tour either after getting in on day 11 or the morning of day 12? Any ideas/options would be greatly appreciated.
