I don't think you would have any problem with doing a tour of Kit Carson, I
think that they do the tours pretty much on demand, any time a group of
people show up.
How ever, if you have just gotten off the trail, your kids may not be all
that crazy about another 12 mile hike. I would think that you could
schedule a bus to take you out there and then pick you up after a couple of
hours. However, they might want to charge you something for the bus.
