All this bus talk has got me to thinking. I would like to recommend to my crew that we do something on day 12 other than hanging around Cimarron (we have all morning and early afternoon prior to heading to our eastbound Amtrak at 3 PM.)

Okay, enough of my long winded rambling, my question, is there any provision either by Philmont or otherwise for crews that want to go to Kit Carson for a tour either after getting in on day 11 or the morning of day 12? Any ideas/options would be greatly appreciated.
And in a second post...
I'll probably schedule the Villa tour when we get in on Day 1. That was what we
did in '03 and got a respectible time in the afternoon on Day 11.
Comment...
The usual convention is to count days as shown in the Treks Itinerary Guide. Day 1 is your arrival at Philmont. Day 11 is the last full day on the trail. Crews return to Camping Headquarters on Day 12 and the Closing Campfire is that night. MOST crews depart Philmont the morning of what would be Day 13.
I say usual convention because some count the first day on the trail (Day 2 / Ranger Treaining in Treks) as Day 1... Philmont does too, in at least one instance, when they talk about the "Day 3 syndrome" (the trek day historically with the most physical and emotional problems that they get called in to deal with) - that is the third day on the trail (Day 4 in Treks) when the Ranger leaves the crew in the morning.
