[philmont] coffee

I've never seen so many responses in such a short time, before I could get
home from a camping trip to respond. Steve's gotten replies from almost
every angle. I agree with Karen, and Jeff (as always), who have pointed out
the disadvantages to a crew addicted to getting out the stove to heat water
for an advisor to have coffee - every morning, when it isn't necessary for
the others, and can be really inconvenient. Holds up 10 or 11 others, uses
sometimes precious time and fuel. Kick the addiction before you go and your
consideration for the others in your crew will be appreciated. Or, if you
must, take your own little stove, get up 15 min before everyone else, brew
you water, and never be noticed. Julian

As Karen mentioned, there is the issue of hitting the trail early. You
generally will not be using stoves for breakfast. I believe there are only
two hot breakfasts of the ten. A common practice is to rise at first light,
break camp ASAP, then stop for breakfast on the trail. At that point you
won't want to unpack a stove, spend time making coffee and waiting for the
stove to cool off, plus repacking.
