George,
I have carried the "pack stool" from campmor in 2002 and 2005. It was the
tripod design and weighed about a pound. Then I found Crazy Creek's version
of the Sling Light called the Cradle Lounger. It is the best! Weighs about
6 ounces more than my pack stool and provides about a 1000 times more
comfort. My daughter continues to carry the pack stool, so we trade off
when I need a little more functional stool for doing certain tasks.
The only downside is strapping the thing on your pack. You don't look like
you know what you are doing anymore - until you pull it off the pack and
relax while others are getting the piles sitting on logs and rocks.
I got mine at backcountry.com.

Subject: [philmont] Camp Chairs at Philmont
As an older Scouter (50+) going to Philmont for the first time, I was
thinking about including a camp chair in my backpacking gear. This would be
my one "luxury" item. Otherwise, it looks as if my pack weight will be in
the 20 to 25 pound range, with a fairly lightweight tent, bag and pack.
After some investigation, I have concluded that the SlingLite chair is the
best candidate, weighing in at about 18 ounces. Have any of you tried
carrying a chair on a Philmont trek? Is it worth the effort or a bad idea I
should just get over?
