I carried a stool from Campmor that was about 1 lb for my first two
treks. Thought about a sling lite when I read about it on this list and
ran into someone with one and tried it out. Decided to buy one and took
the sling lite to the boundary waters in '04 and Philmont in '05. I
think it is well worth the effort to carry it. It took some trial and
error, but I came up with a way to quickly attach it my backpack. With
either a stool or sling lite I like being able to get off the ground and
not sit in the dust or mud.

As an older Scouter (50+) going to Philmont for the first time,
I was thinking about including a camp chair in my backpacking gear.
This would be my one "luxury" item. Otherwise, it looks as if my pack
weight will be in the 20 to 25 pound range, with a fairly lightweight
tent, bag and pack. After some investigation, I have concluded that the
SlingLite chair is the best candidate, weighing in at about 18 ounces.
Have any of you tried carrying a chair on a Philmont trek? Is it worth
the effort or a bad idea I should just get over?
