Al, we have been there about the same amount of times, never heard the "more
of a line than a triangle?" More of just don't make a pattern of any kind.
Make room for a Bear to move freely through the tent pattern if we have one
visit us during the night.

???? Philmont protocol for placing tents is for them to be clustered in
groups with "no geometric figures" - they should be more a line than a
triagle or square.
A lone tent, or one somewhat separated from the group, is more likely to be
the one investigated by a bear. And if a bear is in your campsite, you
don't want him in the middle of a group of tents.
My interpretation of clustered in groups is about 10 to 15 foot apart, and
not more than about 20 feet. That would be another group, and of course 2
is a group. The Bearmuda Tiangle, campsite topography, and the number and
size of your tents will dictate how you will set up your camp.
