We actially completed the service before going to Philmont and did our 3 hour CONS project at Philmont. I took the patches with me and awarded them to the Scouts in basecamp along with the Philmont Arrowhead.

Subject: [philmont] Conservation Projects and 50 miler award
Hi all, I was just sitting here doing some updates for my '09 crews, and was
thinking about the conservation project and the 50 miler award. If you don't
realize it, the 50 miler award requires one to perform 10 hours of service.
You must do three hours in a conservation project at Philmont, meaning the
remaining seven hours are the group's responsibility. If you are like we
are, getting that done after the trip is very difficult, as the scouts
return to school and football and drift in and out.
This time around we are trying to work in the hours BEFORE we go, so when
the trek is over, we will have completed the requirements for the award.
Just and idea to work into the program.
