What's the latest on hiking boots?
How much before Philmont should the boys be breaking in new boots?
What is a reasonable amount of time to purchase boots before Philmont since they are stilll growing? Hate to break in a new pair, then outgrow them by Trek time.
Leather boots need to be broken in. What about the mixed uppers (gortex, etc...)?
Are low cut hiking shoes OK? Some boys prefer them, but we don't have mountains in Wisconsin.
Is it worth it for the boys to buy higher end models that they will outgrow by fall?
Any recommendations for an "inexpensive" brand or make that will hold up to Philmont? What about recommendations for adults who will be wearing them for years to come since their feet won't be growing much?
