This is a conundrum for me. I've researching Good Samaritan laws. Several
of the state laws say the first aid to be protected by the Good Sam act
requires training by a national organization (the Am Red Cross, BSA or
National Ski Patrol.)
Most wilderness first aid courses are not taught by these organizations.

Subject: [philmont] Wilderness First Aid
Don't forget that there is a new requirement this year for Wilderness First
Aid. At least one (if not more) crew members needs to take the course and be
wilderness first aid certified. This is a 16 hour course that you can
usually get through your local American Red Cross Chapter. As far as I know
only Physicians are exempt. Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics and Fireman are still
on the hook despite their experience.
