[philmont] Hiking Boots

Ah the boot and foot issues....

On my trek in 2006 we had an adult who had been to Philmont several years
earlier with his first born son. This trek with his younger son, he wore his
well broken in boots. Only problem was he hadn't worn them in several years
and his feet were no longer broken into the boots. His agony of da feet was
not fun to endure. Extensive deep blistering was the outcome.

This was a father/son tandem that worried me from the get go. They missed
all shakedowns, but as a part of a Council contingent I was the powerless lead
advisor. Had they made some of the monthly shakedowns this might have been
avoided. Both did well otherwise during the trek.

Words to the wise. If wearing boots that have "been there, done that", make
sure you reacquaint feet and boots with each other well in advance of the
trek.
