I am a crew advisor and also a Scoutmaster. My Troop has had Scouts go to
Philmont in past years, prior to this WFA requirement.
My Troop is sending 2 crews to Philmont this year. We have two "medical
professionals" in our crews. One is a MD and the other is a EMT/paramedic
and an Eagle Scout. One of my fellow advisors spoke with Philmont medical
staff and asked them about the WFA requirement. We were told, that both
our professionals needed to take additional training. The MD, we have
already took a WFA course, through Adirondack Mountain Club. Our
EMT/paramedic has to "upgrade" some of his training.
It is my understanding that, even though a person is a medical professional,
the acceptence by Philmont depends upon their specific professional
experience.
Best to call Philmont direct if unsure.
Personally, I would want the EMT/paramedic/Eagle Scout with me.
